Fully automated Budokan (PvP Tournament)

Hello everyone,

This past week, I’ve been working on something that I believe will bring a real breath of fresh air to every private server out there. Today, I’m excited to introduce my Automatic Budokan: the first proper truly automated, fully competitive PvP Tournament system ever developed for our environment.

For over a decade, we’ve seen all kinds of PvP systems:

  • Manual setups requiring constant GM oversight.
  • Semi-automatic systems that still needed manual pairings and arena management/supervision.
  • Attempts at automation that lacked the checks and structure to truly deliver.

This project changes that. From signups to the crowning of the champion, everything is handled automatically and reliably.

Pairings, round progression, disconnect handling, walkovers, byes, bracket management, and even broadcasts: all are taken care of, without a GM having to babysit the system.
And yes: it supports infinite Arenas active and running at the same time.

Key Features

  1. Full Automation
    • Automatic registrations, match pairings, and result processing.
    • Handles disconnects, walkovers, and byes in real time.
    • Seamless round progression until a champion is declared.
    •
  2. Highly Customizable

    • Define level ranges, race, specialization, and even gender for each race restrictions to match your event theme.
    • Block or allow duel effects such as critical hits, poison, healing potions and even equipment change mid-duel.
    • Set prizes and quantities to match your event theme.
    • Adjust match delays, round timing, or even the number of victories required to win a player match.
    •
  3. GM-Friendly Controls
    • Simple, menu-driven in-game setup.
    • Make rule changes, stop, or reset the event instantly.
    • Fully cached and guarded menus ensure speed and reliability even for non-technical staff.
    •
  4. Scalable Design
    • Supports any number of players.
    • Handles multiple arenas simultaneously with intelligent scheduling.
    • Automatic support for odd player counts with byes or walkovers.
    •
  5. For Players
    • Clear, map-wide notices for each phase.
    • Automatic teleportation to arenas and lobbies via gotos.
    • Fair, consistent handling of stallers, no-shows, timeouts, or disconnections.
    •
  6. Technical Excellence
    • Clean, modular code for easy maintenance and expansion.
    • Optimized for smooth performance, even under heavy server load.

My hope is that this will be the foundation for competitive events on private servers:

  • GMs can focus on engaging the community instead of managing logistics.
  • Players get a fair, exciting, and fully automated PvP experience.
  • Server owners gain a future-proof system designed to evolve with new features and integrations.

Looking Ahead

This is only an alpha stage, and therefore it only marks the beginning. Planned future additions may include:

  1. Seasonal rankings and ladders.
  2. Advanced stat tracking and analytics.
  3. Unique player titles and reward tiers.
  4. Integration with external web dashboards.
  5. Camera system integration, with per-arena spectate.
  6. GUI to see the stats and state of each round in real time.
  7. and more..

Acknowledgments

Special thanks to:

  1. @ Mitachi, a special guy who contributed in making this system truly stand out.
  2. @ Gurgarath, for helping me once again deal with Ymir maps' shenanigans.

It goes without saying that I'm open to suggestions and/or questions about how the system works / handles specific situations.
