Active Member b6d4a82c15 173 Posted July 16, 2024 Active Member Share Posted July 16, 2024 Hey guys, its hard not to notice that metin2 player base is getting older and older, with the average age of 24-30 I assume. What do you think is going to happen once those players eventually get older (cause it's not like new ones will come and play this ancient game)? Im trying to imagine what is the future landscape of metin2 pservers... I noticed it went like this: at the beginning pservers were really amateur and makeshift - solely based on patching the game binaries to change server behaviour. Then as the time progressed and various different sources were leaked, it started to get more and more professional, with developers attracted by decent amount of cash to be made on DC. Eventually I think it peaked in 2018-2022 and while I think there are still nice pservers coming out every now and then, they're not as original and carefully crafted as they used to be. Nowadays even gameforge made a permanent DC discount of 50% in certain countries. It's telling. I don't mean to be dramatic but I feel like even the hardcode player base is shrinking slowly but surely What are your thoughts on this? Bronze Exynox 2183 Posted July 20, 2024 Bronze Share Posted July 20, 2024 "Everything that has a beginning, has an end, Neo" It happened to games before Metin2, it will happen to games after Metin2. Of course, there are still exceptions, such as Counter-Strike 1.6 or Age of Empires II. Probably, in certain countries, Metin2 might join the ranks of these games. I'm not sure what will happen from a financial standpoint, but I'd guess it's going to become harder and harder to run commercial servers. We should really focus on archiving all the progress the community has contributed to the game, so that it's going to be easy for nostalgic players to have fun in the future. This was one of the reasons I started the Old Metin2 Project, with its goal being to be extremely easy for anyone to run a server & clients on a modern system, and I encourage people to try to plan for the future in their community projects. Metin2 Download has been huge in this regard as well, and I hope it can be run for as much as possible - and maybe provide some sort of mirroring system (maybe via BitTorrent?) so that the community could store copies of the public files. 1 1
betsch96 9
Metin2 Players are jumping from server to server like its a diablo 4 season, no wonder nobody is investing to much time into their server. You can still make easily 50k+ within 1 month with an server, you dont need 1k player for that, few hundred are enough. Players will come back to metin2 as soon as they get older and their children get older + they got the time to play and live "their childhood" again. Dont blame the admins, they just adepted to the players behaivor
florinx09 106
Yup, simple and fun. Official was ok at the beginning, but unplayable later on. Lots of friends met face to face. Seems like almost all mmos migrated towards "eye candy" and forgot de social aspect, metin2 included.
AgeOfMetin2 1
Metin2 is like a cockroach in the gaming world—undead, immortal, and somehow always around, no matter what. The game that refuses to die! Metin2, you will be in my heart until I die. Long live Metin2!
