Newbie - need help starting small private server

First of all welcome and thank you for visiting this topic. 

I am going to be honest and straight up with you guys, I am an absolute rookie/newbie whatever you want to call it...
I am looking to start a small metin 2 private server which i can firstly get up and running on my PC and if everything works correctly i want to move to a VPS. 
I have only once managed to get one private server working by myself but it was on hamachi and i barely managed.... 
I would like to kindly ask if someone could provide me with some knowledge as support regarding server files and compatible game client which i could use to run with my server. I've searched through the forum but only found files which are apparently accessed through Putty - SSH. The only way i know how to create a server is with the use of VB & FreeBSD (the old way ?) hence why im asking for some information. Links to useful topics or server fines will be greatly appreciated. 

Also if anyone with experience in server creation is willing to help out, i am more than happy to perhaps recruit someone as a technician / admin
