Probably this is caused because you have an outdated version of git, could you run

git --version 

and

uname -a

and post here the results?

You can change encryption protocol with tls, probably it will solve your issue.

 

git config --global --add http.sslVersion tlsv1.0

i had this error too recently.. i gave up trying to fix it and switched to freebsd 11

Update your freebsd, 9.3 it's outdated.
