How to make a private dedicated server?

Right, this might sound silly but I want to make a private dedicated server and I don't know how to make one, can someone guide me through on what to do or give me advice. I always wanted to make one.

I mean like everything to cater for like a lot of people, we are speculating for about 1,5-2,5k people

Ok, just buy one good server, or 2 and more server for split channels..

If it will be good parameters, it is..
But for better efficiency is good to have more.

Just google it or there on forum, there are lots of SF etc..
