Root server on PC question
Rumor replied to Aurora's topic in Community Support - Questions & Answers
First of all the term "root server" is totally wrong and alot of people in Metin2 are copying this incorrect term from German forums. There's no such thing as a "root server". "root" is a username and account privilege. It can also be the top level directory of a folder. For example you have a Metin2 game client with the folders pack, lib, mark. Well the main folder that contains these sub-folders is considered the root directory. The correct term you're looking for is "dedicated server". Secondly, since Metin2 is meant to run on FreeBSD and you're likely using Windows you can't have a dedicated server on your OS. You'd have to run a virtual environment with FreeBSD on it. Alternatively, you could install FreeBSD as your host operating system and that could be a "dedicated server". The reason they are called "dedicated servers" is because the entire system is dedicated to being a server, which includes the OS. You would need to forward ports for auth and channels. Since it's only a test I recommend only using 1 channel to keep the forwarding simple. You would forward all the ports for channel 1 and 99 (assuming you have more than 1 core, otherwise just forward the ch1/ch99 ports). If you need anyone else to have external access to your network's MySQL server or any other services for admin access to your Metin2 files you would just forward those ports too. So what to do: 1. find out which router you have. Look up "<router name> admin ip". Usually the admin login and password are included on the same page but if you don't see it then search for those too. 2. Access that link and login, you're going to have to browse the options yourself to find port forwarding and add new rules for port forwarding. It's pretty self explanatory from here on. The internal port doesn't matter but for sanity I recommend using the same as the service port. - You would be using your computer's local ip when selecting which ip to forward the port for. -

Having the information public is the fastest way to get people to take action against it and the fix is in the thread. If you're able to create libs then it should be no problem for you
