Hey guys,

 

Last night I was kinda playing with granny a bit and this tool was born.

I hope it will be useful for most of you!

 

Optimize, change textures, convert to fbx or 3ds, etc...

Usage: Just drag and drop a gr2 file on the exe and choose what you would like the program to do.

P.S.: Don't be surprised if the new gr2 file becomes bigger than it was, it is because this tool saves them without compression for better performance.

What is done in step 3 (performance) ?

It writes that out if you do that.

But here it is:

So the gr2 files that are saved with this tool will be loaded faster? Is that what you mean with better performance? Thanks for the tool btw.

Theoretically en bloc it gives some performance gain. For example converting meshes to 16bit indices even tho sounds strange because modern cpus work faster with their native word size but the less cache miss because of the size optimization can turn the balance to the other way around.

lazy tips for an update:

-make a 7th option that does 1,3 and 4 

-make an option which changes every texture's file format into DDS

does anyone tried to restore UVW maps after messing with any monkey dungeon object? or is it just me who has no idea to what to do with materials and lightmaps?

option8 the program renames every model's texture part into dds in it's folder and converts every tga into dds file format

the software/program imports the bones from an egzisting GR2 file if it has bones to import

option 12 - convert all GR2 models to mesh and delete the gr2 files instantly.

option 13 - convert the GR2 file into mde format.

So what if someone has more than one textures on the same model with different mesh parts? Does your converter just puts the same texture onto every materials?

or is there an option to CHOOSE which texture will need to change or which won't?

One thing.. Why this fuc**** string with _new..? Just simply replace is better or easy for code and managment save in new folder like this input xx. gr2 drag on. exe and output folder/xx.gr2... Btw. For other.. You can ctrl+c 1, 3, 4 and ctrl+v

V1.4: Texture paths are changed from D:\ymir work[...] to just simply ymir work\[...] when exporting to fbx or 3ds
